Welcoming in the New Year I'm reminded of a quote from a recent sermon I heard that we should consider everyday "a new day." Not only should we look forward to 2009 being better but, we should look forward that everyday is a new day and holds new promises and opportunities.With that in mind...in my last post I talked about a key word that's important to success. As a copywriter or entrepreneur without the ability to focus our work, projects, success, and future will become nothing more than ineffective chaos and confusion.
Nothing is worse than getting overwhelmed with "too much on our plates." Information overload is one of these culprits. How many times, with good intentions of course, have you found yourself burried with so much reading material you don't know where to start? Or how about an email box so full you have to dedicate hours upon hours to weed through the mess. Sound familiar?To start the New Year off right let's set and focus on some worth while goals that will help us get started toward success;
- Get clear on what you really want to accomplish. Without a clear target you'll be shooting blindly into space. Write down what you really want. Once you know what you desired outcome is it will be easier to eliminate distractions.
- Get organized! Clutter and chaos just doesn't cut it! File what needs to be filed, but do it in an organized way so you know where everything is. Keep handy only the important tools you need at hand for your current task or project.
- Elminate distractions. One good way to elimiate time wasters is your email box. I learned this tactic not to long ago and must admit it really helped. How much of your email is really junk? I mean you probably have a lot of newsletters, ezines, and personal stuff that really isn't necessary reading. Right? You've probably signed up for ezines long ago in order to get some free report or other info...just to be continuously bombarded with their daily email junk. Solution? Dump'em...that's right. Time to let go! Do yourself a favor eliminate all the out-of-date and useless email subscriptions you have. Clean house! This works and you'll really feel a whole lot better as you won't feel overwhelmed the next time you open your mail box!
- Make a commitment to work systematically. What I mean is commit yourself to learn how to write or work using a proven system. A system or process is often proven to work because it's handed down from experts and pros who've already worked out the bugs and problems. Eugene Swartz, a copywriting professional from the past, was a clear advocate of using a writing system. Every writing project that he undertook started with the same process...research, headline, lead, etc. He then followed through step-by-step with his writing process. He never missed a beat or important component in his copy. In the AWAI Copywriting course their whole beginner's level course focuses on using a structured format of writing. Find your own process/system and focus on it while you work your tasks. I know this process will work for you too!
A great resource that I've used that helps me to not only organize myself and my business but, also helps me to organize my writing and thoughts is a software program. Originally introduced to me by the well known internet marketer, Jim Edwards, this program has more than paid for it'self many times over. Mindjet Mindmanager Pro is a mind manager program that help's you to work smarter, think creatively, and save time. I love it! Mindjet MindManager Pro helps me to organize my thoughts and creativity.
Simply, what I do is think about a writing topic or task I want to perform. Then in Mindjet Pro I start the process by giving it a title and then I open subtitle boxes one after another with ideas or thoughts about my main topic. As I keep this creative flow going I don't stop and edit...just go with the flow. Pluging-in one subtitle after another with creative thoughts and ideas. In the end after I've exhuasted my creative mind the program allows me to reorganize the subtitles into any order that I want. I can now easily and systematically organize an entire article, blog post, or copy project into a finished product without being overwhelmed with information overload. My thoughts are now down on paper in a organized way and I can just fill in the blanks. Kind of like an outline writing process you learned from the old school days but, using it makes life much more efficient, easier, and a real time saver. Mindjet Mindmanager Pro has proven to me to be a profitable investment.
Starting the New Year off right I couldn't make a more powerful recommendation. Are you serious about being successful this year? Check out Mindjet Mindmanager Pro and then put it to work for You! You'll be amazed at how many applications and tasks you can use this software on to make your life and business a true New Year's success.
My best wishes for a truly prosperous New Year!Marshall
